LA CHIOCCIOLA - UMBRIA - MASSA MARTANA - TODI
(PERUGIA)
La Chiocciola is a delightful property set in a small hamlet among the
Monti Martani hills in the heart of Umbria. Completely renovated in 2005,
the owner has paid great attention to the smallest details, transforming a
ruin into an elegant and comfortable home.
Some of the other houses in the
hamlet are inhabited but the position of La Chiocciola guarantees the
guests privacy and tranquillity. The oldest part is a drying room dating
back to the 16th century (study and outside room).
The garden, surrounded
by a laurel hedge, is full of flowers and fruit trees: quince,
pomegranate, fig, persimmon, citron, lemon and olive trees.
In the
swimming pool zone is a practical outdoor dining area with gazebo, table
and chairs, fridge, sink and all the necessary for preparing a delicious
open air meal. The outdoor furniture is composed of a teak lounge suite,
sunbeds, deck chairs and an antique towel holder which the owner found in
an antique shop.
The guest house (living room, small bedroom and bathroom
with shower) opens on to the pool. The atmosphere is cool and functional.
The exterior of the house is in stone while in the interior every room has
been decorated in different colours, without ever breaking the general
harmony. A welcoming and safe refuge to spend unforgettable moments. Not
far from the house is the old Roman road, Via Flaminia, ideal for a stroll
in history!
PARK: the garden is about 1000 sqm,
full of flowers and plants.
SWIMMING POOL: open from April 29th to
September 30th. The pool is in the lower part of the garden and is reached
by a tile and stone flight of steps, it’s 12 x 6,5 m and depth varying
from 1,30 to 2,50 m. It is furnished with sunbeds, a teak lounge suite and
a gazebo with dining table. There is an outdoor shower.
INTERIORS: the house is built on three
levels.
First level: a staircase on the right side of the house leads to
an external double bedroom with bathroom (shower), this room can also be
reached by a door from the living room. This room has a small private
garden.
Second level: a tile and stone staircase leads to a terrace
furnished with cushions and chairs. From the terrace one can enter the
dining room and the living room, the last one characterized by a glass
wall. A few iron steps lead to a study. The elegant, yellow-painted dining
room has a sandstone fireplace and a valuable majolica stove. Seven steps
lead down to the well equipped kitchen, designed by the owner. The kitchen
has a small outside area with table and chairs and is protected by a
sunshade.
Third level: a narrow staircase leads from the dining room to
the bedrooms. On the right, a few antique tile steps lead down to the
double bedroom, then a small single room, a bathroom with a large tiled
shower, a second double bedroom with en suite bathroom with tub. From the
balcony of this room one can go down to the hamlet.
GUESTHOUSE: it opens on to the swimming pool and has a living room, a
small room which can be used as a bedroom and a bathroom with shower.
The double bedrooms have queen size beds, but even so are really
comfortable for two people.
